Sample of Dive Trips
Caymen Islands
1980s, 1990s, 2003
When we first went to Grand Cayman, Seven Mile Beach had 4 hotels on it.
The diving was fantastic. I went again late 1990s and there were so
many hotels the beach was barely visible. The diving was nice with the
reefs in ok condition. Photo at right is from a 2003 trip to Little Cayman. Much less crowded but more challenging diving.
Bonaire
2002
Very beautiful calm diving. Many of the dive sites are on a small island
a couple minute boat ride from the main island called Klein Bonaire.
Dominica
2005
A great island for diving and hiking. The diving was excellent with
great visibility and no currents. Lots of sea life including turtles,
moreys, barracudas, flying fish, spiny lobsters, etc. One of the unique
dive sites is Champaign which is an area where hot air bubbles up from
the ocean floor.
Bimini
2006 & 2008
This was a fish collection expedition sponsored by the New England
Aquarium. Nine paying volunteers, 3 staff people from the aquarium, and 3
crew were on the boat for a week collecting specimens for the aquarium.
There were 3 to 4 dives per day. Divers went down in teams of 2 to 4
depending on the targeted specimen. On this trip, about 350 specimens
were collected and air freighted back to the aquarium.
Maldives
2011
The best diving. Beautiful coral, an abundance of sea life, an
incredible variety of fish, warm clean water, and warm people. I spent 9
days on the live aboard, Manthiri, with 11 great people on a trip
organized by Mass Divers in Natick, MA. The crew of the Manthiri is
fantastic, headed up by Moosa, one of the most knowledgeable and
friendliest, divemaster you are likely to find and a great photographer
as well. The highlights of the trip were the whale shark and the manta
rays.
Philippines
2012
Two destinations - Dumaguete and Cebu. The diving was good but not great due to lower
visibility (15-30 feet) from a fall typhoon and earthquake that stirred
up the water. Some dives were in locations with all sand or muck
bottoms with lots of small interesting creatures (ghost pipe fish, pigmy
seahorse). Other dives were all coral. In Cebu, it was all wall
dives. The diving at Apo Island was excellent. Beautiful hard
and soft coral.
Hawaii
2015
Nice diving, beautiful land from lush rain forests to desolate lava.
Roatan
2017
Very nice easy diving with typically excellent visibility
Baja, Mexico
2019
Wonderful trip to the southern part of the Baja pennisula. Both the Gray and Blue whales were migrating north stopping to give birth here. The Gray's were very friendly.
